Most members of the Black Community know about her already, but in case you don’t, Her Name is Chimamanda Adichie ;World Renowned Author. You should read her critically acclaimed Novels – Half of a Yellow Sun, The Thing Around Your Neck (Short Story Collections) or Purple Hibiscus.
I came across her TED talk a few days ago and i could not resist the burning urge inside of me to share it with the rest of the world.
In her TED talk, she discusses Stereotypes (especially African Stereotypes) and how people form Misconceptions through Stereotypes. She encourages us to stay away from Stereotyping and Generalization, Describing the act of Stereotyping as “The Single Story“.
Citing examples from her life, She goes on to show that nothing on earth has a Single Story, there always is more than what meets the eye.
Stereotypes are not untrue she said, they are incomplete.
