Relationships – Gentlemen is it okay if your woman earns more than you financially?

A lot of men have mentioned this to me as a problem, especially in Africa where a man demands respect from his woman.

I don’t think it is a problem at all! This is the 21st century where the man is no longer seen as the breadwinner of the family and the woman the housewife. In the Caribbean community as you all may know, the number of single parents is significantly more than the African community and woman have to make a living for themselves. This is the mentality we are brought up with. “don’t make no man run you. You make yor own living and if he’d like to contribute them let it be.” not sit back and watch him. What if he leaves?… you can hardly afford to buy bread and butter for your family. So when you get into a relationship you’re already set on being a high flying business woman why must you lower your standards or dreams for a man who has too much pride. One of black mens biggest issues…. PRIDE. they have too much! So why don’t we all try our upmost best at achieving and may the best woMAN win :p
But seriously, it’s better to live the high life with a joint wealth than having either leaching off the other. Not saying the man is wokless if he earns less. Maybe he hasn’t had his big break yet. so stop sulking and get a grip. It isn’t a problem just make sure you’ve tried and your single income can support a family.

i must disagree with your comment amber, Men are natural breadwinners. When a woman starts to earn more than her husband she loses respect for him . and he feels less of a man too

Mr Anonymous I don’t agree! Why would we lose respect? We certainly may have more say as to what goes on in the house but males may see this leverage as a sign of disrespect….
That goes back to the whole pride thing. But do you believe a woman should hold back on her potential due to these things?

In Africa where i come from, women should stay in the house and look after the kids mrs amber! – Nature vs nurture – We are the natural bread winners let us do our thing, you juss look after the kids

Wow! Well good thing we are in the UK then or we will be in absolute peril.
That’s if you believe in that whole nature nurture ish. I see where you are coming from. So good luck with your hunt for Madame Submissive.
