AFRICA’S RISING STARS EDITION – Julie Wangeci Wang’ombe.

age Julie Wangeci Wang’ombe

The Kenyan elections have been in news in the past few days. Also receiving global attention is the president’s young acceptance speech writer Julie Wangeci Wang’ombe. At only 22 years of age Julie Wangeci Wang’ombe is one to watch out for.

She introduces herself as a spoken word artist, an art she discovered at the age of 18 at the Slam Africa events in Westlands, Nairobi in 2009. Julie soon moved to the United States to attend college at Duke University where she perfected her act inspired by several experienced spoken word artists, the likes of Joshua Benne whom she met.

Her experiences as an African in an America Institution led her to writing the poem called “A Reintroduction to Africa”, which most people know her by. She has also performed the poem at several global events, including the TED International Talent Search; Africa Governance Leadership and Management Convention and Acumen Fund’s Innovate conference.
